Isn't Chiropractic in Line with Other Natural Approaches to Treating Disease?

Chiropractic is the most natural approach to healthcare, but it is not a natural approach to treating disease. How can this be?
To treat a disease, you need to address the symptoms of a disease. Chiropractic though does not address the symptoms of any disease. Chiropractic care is not predicated on the presence or absence of symptoms. Chiropractic is based on the presence or absence of a vertebral subluxation.
A vertebral subluxation is not a symptom of disease but a state of dis-ease.
A vertebral subluxation interferes with the expression of health. Health is not dependent on the presence or absence of symptoms. Chiropractic focuses on the quality of Nerve System function.
Nerve function is crucial for health. The Nerve System controls all the movements we make, senses everything we feel, regulates all our body organs and relates us to the outside world.
A vertebral subluxation disrupts the expression of these functions. When a vertebral subluxation is present, Nerve System function can’t be at its best. This means your health can’t be at its best as well.
The same can not be said for symptoms. The presence of symptoms doesn’t necessarily mean your health is not at its best. The absence of symptoms doesn’t mean your health is at its best either. A symptom can be a marker of either healthy function or sick function. Symptoms are an expression of function, not a disruption in function.
Symptoms are not intrinsically bound to disease. A cough, a runny nose, a fast heart rate, etc. are not just indicators of disease. Very often, the opposite is true. Quoting Dr. Stephen Cummings, MD:
“Symptoms represent the body’s best effort to heal itself. By treating symptoms, you are suppressing the body’s natural response and inhibiting the healing process. Instead of treating symptoms, doctors should stimulate the body’s defenses to allow for completion of the healing process.”
Chiropractic care improves the resistance and adaptability of the body. Two of the most important health responses we have are adaptability and resistance. Resistance is the inherent ability of our body to endure harmful influences in a positive way. Adaptability is the inherent ability of our body to respond to harmful influences in a positive way.
Chiropractic does not add or subtract to the body. The aim of Chiropractic is to let what is already found within the body, express itself at a greater potential. Nothing is more natural than this.
