“I've Been Under Regular Chiropractic Care For Many Years, But I Still Need To Be Adjusted; Why?”

I’m not trying to circumvent the question, but let me pose a few questions before I answer. Why do you change the oil in your car? Or clean your bathroom? Or go to the gym? Or brush your teeth?

Simply put, because life, and all the crap that goes with it, happens. We don’t live in a bubble. We need to persist and resist daily. Events will stress the integrity of not only your car or bathroom but your health as well. Stress will challenge the alignment of your spine. Stress will force it to make compensations and create a subluxation.

Just because you need an adjustment, doesn’t mean you’d be better off without getting adjusted. Would you be better off not getting adjusted and just leaving things subluxated? Or - How often would your spine subluxate if you didn’t get adjusted?

Your body functions better without a vertebral subluxation, no matter how many times it's been subluxated before. No matter how often your spine subluxates, it is always better to have it corrected than not. Health is a journey and the road isn’t always straight and paved with gold.

While not exactly analogous, I’ll give an example from a medical point of view. Let’s say you have type 1 diabetes. You have to take insulin because your pancreas has a weakness that prevents it from creating its own. Even if you watch what you eat and drink daily, monitor your blood glucose regularly and take insulin routinely for years; your blood glucose will still “go out” of its normal range. Do you say to yourself: I’ve been taking my insulin for years, but my sugar still goes out, why do I keep taking insulin? Not likely.

How much more often would your blood glucose need medically adjusted if you weren’t taking your insulin? Would you be better off not taking the insulin and just letting your sugar continually “go out?”

Health is the set point, but it does not remain stationary. Health is a continuum. Both external and internal factors tip the scale towards and away from health daily. This is why we must constantly be proactive in striving for health.

For example, if you want to sustain a fire and the light and warmth it produces, you must be proactive and give it the right fuel to reap its benefits. If you want to sustain health and the wellness it produces, you must be proactive and give it the right fuel to reap its benefits.

Sticking with this analogy, things both in and out of our control can stress the integrity of the fire. Factors such as wind, rain or the proper fuel source can prevent the fire from expressing its greatest potential. Interventions are required from time to time to support the fire. A Chiropractic adjustment is one type of intervention that aims to maintain the flame we call health.

So be thankful that for years you’ve been able to have your vertebral subluxation adjusted as needed. This type of proactive care keeps your health as bright as it can be.
